Student’s Name: Kevin (Ha Jae)

Teacher’s Name: Cristina

Book's name: Let’s Go 1 and Let's Go 1 Workbook

Pages: 4-19 (the pages that the student studied from January 10 to January 31)

Workbook Pages: 4-14

Levels of Proficiency

• Beginning – The student at this level struggles with his/her understanding; prerequisite and fundamental knowledge and or skills have not been acquired or developed adequately to aid understanding.

• Developing – The student at this level possesses the minimum knowledge and skills and core understandings, but needs help throughout the performance of authentic tasks.

• Approaching Proficiency – The student at this level has developed the fundamental knowledge and skills and core understandings and with little guidance from the teacher and/or with some assistance from peers, can transfer these understandings through authentic performance tasks.

• Proficient – The student at this level has developed the fundamental knowledge and skills and core understandings, and can transfer them independently through authentic performance tasks.

• Advanced – The student at this level exceeds the core requirements in terms of knowledge, skills and understandings, and can transfer them automatically and flexibly through authentic performance tasks.

ATTITUDE:

Kevin is a bit distracted and very playful in class . But he still listens to his teacher. He just needs more guidance from his teacher when answering the activities from the workbook. He loves to play games before we start with our lesson. So the teacher needs to think of a game that is related to the lesson.

READING:

Kevin’s reading skill can be considered as Developing. This is because he can read simple English sentences. But there are also some words which are unfamiliar to the student. The student has a tendency to mumble whenever he doesn’t know how to read a particular word. He needs more time learning and understanding new vocabulary. The teacher will prepare word drill to enhance his reading skill. However, he has made little progress in his understanding of English text for the past month of January.

COMPREHENSION:

Kevin’s comprehension skill can be considered as Developing. This is because his teacher still needs to repeat the same instruction and questions twice whenever they’re having lessons. But with the teacher's guidance the student can immediately understand and answer questions about the lesson.

SPEAKING AND PRONUNCIATION:

Kevin’s speaking and pronunciation skills can be considered as Beginning. This is because the student still needs help and guidance to express what he wants to say using the English language. During class, he still asks his mother to help him. His English is currently limited by his weak vocabulary but he is progressively adding new words to it. Nevertheless, he needs to broaden his vocabulary to enable him to cope in a greater variety of contexts.

RECOMMENDATIONS/COMMENTS:

His teacher is encouraging him to practice reading new and unfamiliar words during his free time. The teacher should also  start the class with free talking and ask what his activities were during the day or during the weekend to encourage him to express himself more and be fluent using the English language in the future.

FUTURE GOALS:

His teacher will still be introducing more conversational English and will provide him reading drills to practice during class to enhance the student’s speaking skill. The teacher should prepare more interactive ESL materials are recommended to gain his interest.
