Levels of Proficiency

 

  • Beginning – The student at this level struggles with his/her understanding; prerequisite and fundamental knowledge and or skills have not been acquired or developed adequately to aid understanding.

 

  • Developing – The student at this level possesses the minimum knowledge and skills and core understandings, but needs help throughout the performance of authentic tasks.

 

  • Approaching Proficiency – The student at this level has developed the fundamental knowledge and skills and core understandings and with little guidance from the teacher and/or with some assistance from peers, can transfer these understandings through authentic performance tasks.

 

  • Proficient – The student at this level has developed the fundamental knowledge and skills and core understandings, and can transfer them independently through authentic performance tasks.

 

  • Advanced – The student at this level exceeds the core requirements in terms of knowledge, skills and understandings, and can transfer them automatically and flexibly through authentic performance tasks.

 

ATTITUDE:

 

          Min Gang is a very positive student. He is always ready to learn during every class. He is very funny and it is fun talking to him. Although he is still struggling in using the English language, he really tries his best to speak more. He is very open with his feelings and he is always willing to share his experiences and how his day went. The same as before, he is very polite and thoughtful. He never complains about the activities given to him. He always participates in class discussions.

 

         

 

READING:

 

Min Gang’s reading skill can be considered as Approaching Proficiency. The student at this level has developed the fundamental knowledge and skills and core understandings and with little guidance from the teacher and/or with some assistance from peers, can transfer these understandings through authentic performance tasks.

Min Gang is very good reader. He can read some difficulty words. During reading, he can express the feelings of the characters and can change his voice easily. He never complains when reading long paragraphs and stories.

 

 

COMPREHENSION:

 

          Min Gang’s comprehension can be considered as Approaching Proficiency. This is because the student at this level has developed the fundamental knowledge and skills and core understandings and with little guidance from the teacher and/or with some assistance from peers, can transfer these understandings through authentic performance tasks. Min Gang can easily get the instructions and can easily answers the activities given. He is not hesitant in asking the teacher whenever is confused with the meaning or to some words that he is unfamiliar with. Most of the time, he can figure out on his own on how to answer the exercises given by the teacher.

 

SPEAKING AND PRONUNCIATION

 

          Min Gang’s speaking and pronunciation can be considered as Approaching Proficiency.  One thing that I like about Min Gang is that he really tries his best in conversing his thoughts and ideas with his teacher. Although there some lapses in his conversations, he never complains with the corrections and accepts it positively. Sometimes when speaking, he deliberately pronounces the words incorrectly but after the correction he is able to pronounce it well. He has shown much improvement this month.

 

 

RECOMMENDATIONS:

 

          It is highly recommended for Min Gang to practice more in reading stories and poems for him to expand his vocabulary. He needs to have more conversations using the English language for him to gain confidence in speaking it. It is better for him to always practice especially the new found words that he learned.

 

FUTURE GOALS:

 

          For the month of November 2019, the teacher will give him activities that could expand his vocabulary. The teacher is also preparing activities that could help his pronunciation to improve.
